Abstract

ABSTRACT

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease characterized by bronchial hyperresponsiveness. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of various types of breathing exercises in improving symptom control, lung function, and quality of life of adult asthma patients through a systematic literature review. The search method used PubMed and ScienceDirect databases with the keywords breathing exercises, asthma management, and quality of life. The analysis of 11 studies showed that breathing exercises such as Breathing Retraining (BrEX), Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT), and yoga techniques (Kapalabhati) significantly improved Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ) scores, forced vital capacity (FVC), and maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP). The combination of core stabilization exercises with diaphragmatic breathing was also effective in improving dynamic balance and physical activity. The study concluded that this non-pharmacological intervention can be a safe and affordable adjuvant therapy for asthma management.
