Scientific Journal of Nursing Research (SJNR) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published by the Department of Nursing, Poltekkes Kemenkes Pontianak, Indonesia.
The journal provides immediate and unrestricted free access to its published scholarly content, based on the principle that research findings should be widely available to researchers, healthcare professionals, educators, students, policymakers, and the public without financial barriers.
SJNR is committed to advancing the dissemination, visibility, accessibility, and responsible reuse of scientific knowledge in nursing and healthcare. By making published research freely available, the journal aims to promote evidence-based nursing practice, improve healthcare education, strengthen clinical decision-making, facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, and support improvements in patient care and public health.
The journal recognizes that equitable access to scientific information is essential for advancing healthcare knowledge, particularly in institutions and communities with limited access to subscription-based academic resources.
SJNR supports the principles expressed in the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) and promotes responsible scholarly communication through transparent copyright and licensing information, appropriate attribution, author rights, and sustainable access to published research.

2. Copyright, Licensing, and Reuse
Scientific Journal of Nursing Research is committed to providing clear information concerning copyright ownership, publication rights, licensing, and lawful reuse.
The journal distinguishes between copyright ownership, which concerns the legal rights associated with a scholarly work, and open-access licensing, which establishes the permissions granted to readers and other users.
Copyright Ownership and Publication Rights
Copyright ownership and publication rights are governed by the applicable publication agreement and the copyright statement associated with each article.
Under the author-retained copyright model proposed for articles published after the formal adoption of this policy, authors retain copyright in their original scholarly work and grant SJNR a non-exclusive right of first publication, together with the rights necessary to publish, disseminate, index, and preserve the article.
Authors remain responsible for the originality of their contributions and for obtaining necessary permissions for third-party materials included in their manuscripts.
Any author-retained copyright arrangement must be reflected consistently in the journal's formal publishing agreement, Copyright Notice, and article-level metadata.
For previously published articles, the applicable copyright arrangements and licenses must be assessed according to the agreements and notices governing those publications. Adoption of a revised policy does not retrospectively transfer copyright or alter an existing license without an appropriate legal basis.
Creative Commons Licensing
Scientific Journal of Nursing Research uses the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0) for articles bearing this license statement.
License information must be displayed clearly on the relevant article page and, where practicable, within the article's full-text files and publication metadata.
The official license terms are available at:
Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0)
Under this license, users are permitted to copy, redistribute, adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the licensed material for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that the applicable license conditions are satisfied.
Attribution Requirements
Users who reuse SJNR content under CC BY-SA 4.0 must provide appropriate acknowledgment of the original work.
Attribution should include, where reasonably available:
-
The names of the original authors.
-
The title of the published article.
-
The name of the journal, Scientific Journal of Nursing Research.
-
The relevant bibliographic information.
-
The article DOI or permanent journal URL.
-
A link to the Creative Commons license.
-
An indication of any changes made to the original material.
Attribution must not imply that the authors, journal, publisher, or affiliated institutions endorse the user or the manner in which the material has been reused.
ShareAlike Requirement
When a user adapts, translates, modifies, or transforms material licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, the resulting adaptation must be distributed under the same license or another license recognized as compatible with CC BY-SA 4.0.
Users must not impose additional legal restrictions or technological measures that prevent others from exercising the permissions granted under the applicable Creative Commons license.
Reuse for Educational and Research Purposes
Subject to compliance with the applicable license, SJNR encourages the responsible reuse of published scholarly content in activities such as:
-
Nursing education and professional training.
-
Development of instructional and learning materials.
-
Evidence-based practice education.
-
Systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
-
Scholarly presentations and research discussions.
-
Development of clinical education resources.
-
Translation and adaptation of research findings.
-
Academic research and knowledge dissemination.
Users should maintain the scientific meaning of the original material and clearly distinguish their own interpretations or modifications from the authors' original findings.
Third-Party Materials and Additional Rights
Creative Commons licensing applies only to material covered by the relevant license.
Photographs, clinical images, diagrams, measurement instruments, questionnaires, copyrighted figures, and other third-party materials may be subject to separate rights or permissions.
Where third-party materials are excluded from the article's Creative Commons license, such exclusions must be clearly identified.
Users are responsible for obtaining additional permissions when required.
An open-access license does not override patient privacy, informed consent, data protection obligations, or other applicable legal and ethical rights.
The publication of anonymized research findings does not authorize the unrestricted disclosure of confidential clinical records or identifiable participant data.
Additional information concerning copyright arrangements should be provided in the journal's Copyright Notice.
3. Sharing and Repository Deposit
Scientific Journal of Nursing Research supports responsible self-archiving and scholarly sharing as important mechanisms for increasing the accessibility, dissemination, and long-term visibility of research.
Authors are encouraged to disseminate their published research through appropriate academic and professional channels while complying with applicable copyright, licensing, and publication ethics requirements.
Repository Deposit
Where permitted by the applicable article license and publication agreement, authors may deposit the published version of record in:
-
Institutional repositories.
-
University or academic repositories.
-
Subject-specific research repositories.
-
Recognized scholarly archives.
-
Personal academic websites.
-
Professional research profiles.
-
Other legitimate non-exclusive dissemination platforms.
For articles licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, repository deposit and redistribution are permitted in accordance with that license, without a publisher-imposed embargo on the published version of record.
Repository deposits must not introduce access restrictions inconsistent with the applicable license.
Sharing the Published Version
Authors may share the published version of an article under its applicable license.
Deposited or shared copies should preserve:
-
The complete names of the authors.
-
The original article title.
-
The journal name.
-
The publication year, volume, issue, and page range or article identifier.
-
The DOI or permanent article URL.
-
The applicable copyright and Creative Commons license statement.
-
Relevant notices concerning corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions.
Authors and repository administrators are encouraged to provide a direct link to the article's official SJNR landing page.
This enables readers to locate the authoritative publication record and check whether subsequent post-publication notices have been issued.
Preprints and Accepted Manuscripts
The sharing of preprints and accepted manuscripts must comply with the journal's applicable preprint and prior-publication policies.
Authors should disclose relevant preprint availability during submission where required.
When a manuscript has been formally published by SJNR, authors are encouraged to update any publicly available preprint or accepted manuscript record with the citation and DOI of the final published article.
Readers should be able to distinguish an unreviewed preprint, an accepted manuscript, and the final published version of record.
Public availability of a manuscript before publication does not establish that it has undergone peer review or received editorial endorsement.
Academic and Professional Sharing
Authors and readers may share licensed SJNR publications through scholarly networks, professional nursing associations, academic communities, research collaborations, and educational platforms.
Such sharing should maintain accurate attribution, identify the publication source, and avoid misrepresenting the findings or publication status.
Adaptations of CC BY-SA 4.0 content must comply with its attribution and ShareAlike requirements.
Corrections, Retractions, and Repository Updates
When a published article is corrected, retracted, or subject to another formal editorial notice, authors and repository administrators should take reasonable steps to update corresponding repository records.
The original DOI and journal landing page should remain discoverable.
Corrections and retraction notices should be linked or prominently identified where technically feasible.
The journal encourages repositories to preserve transparent publication histories rather than silently replacing or removing scholarly records.
4. Reader Access and Author Fees
Scientific Journal of Nursing Research distinguishes between free access for readers and any charges that may apply to manuscript submission, editorial services, publication, or optional author services.
Open access guarantees that readers can access published scholarly content without paying subscription or article access fees.
It does not, by itself, establish whether authors are subject to publication-related charges.
Free Access for Readers
SJNR does not charge readers for:
-
Browsing published journal issues.
-
Reading article abstracts.
-
Accessing available full-text publications.
-
Downloading published article files.
-
Accessing the journal's publicly available bibliographic information.
Readers do not need to purchase a subscription or register an account to access published articles.
Article Processing Charges and Other Author Fees
Any article processing charges (APCs), submission fees, publication fees, or optional service charges, if applicable, must be disclosed clearly and transparently through the journal's official author information.
The applicable fee information should identify:
-
The type and amount of each charge.
-
The currency in which the fee is payable.
-
The stage of the publication process at which payment is required.
-
The services covered by the charge.
-
Any available waivers, discounts, or exemptions.
-
The procedure for payment and confirmation.
Authors should be informed of applicable mandatory charges before submission or before incurring a payment obligation.
The absence of a publicly disclosed fee schedule must not be treated as authorization to impose undisclosed charges.
The journal's editorial management is responsible for ensuring that any adopted author fee policy is available, accurate, and consistent with institutional financial requirements.
Editorial Independence and Publication Fees
Any publication-related fees must remain separate from the scientific evaluation and editorial decision-making process.
Payment of an article processing charge or other fee does not guarantee:
-
Acceptance of a manuscript.
-
Favorable peer review.
-
Accelerated editorial approval outside established procedures.
-
Exemption from revisions.
-
Publication despite unresolved ethical or methodological concerns.
Editorial decisions must be based on scientific merit, originality, methodological quality, relevance to the journal's aims and scope, research integrity, and compliance with publication ethics.
All manuscripts must undergo the journal's established Peer Review Process.
Financial considerations must not improperly influence the acceptance or rejection of submitted manuscripts.
Funding and Institutional Support
The journal may receive institutional, administrative, technical, or other legitimate support for its scholarly publishing operations.
Any financial arrangements affecting journal publication must be managed transparently and must not compromise editorial independence.
Open-access publishing costs, where applicable, should be managed through responsible institutional arrangements and publicly disclosed author charges rather than restrictions on reader access.
5. Preservation and Access Support
Scientific Journal of Nursing Research recognizes that immediate public access must be supported by appropriate long-term preservation and reliable digital availability.
The journal is committed to developing and maintaining responsible procedures for preserving published scholarly content, publication metadata, and relevant records necessary to support continuity of access.
Digital Preservation Principles
The journal's preservation arrangements should address:
-
Long-term accessibility of published articles.
-
Secure retention of electronic publication files.
-
Maintenance of accurate bibliographic metadata.
-
Protection against accidental deletion, unauthorized modification, and data loss.
-
Recovery of scholarly content following technical failures.
-
Preservation of correction and retraction notices.
-
Continued discoverability of scholarly publications.
The journal should maintain appropriate safeguards for the integrity, authenticity, and traceability of published content.
Electronic Archiving
Published articles and issue records should be maintained in the journal's official online publishing system and supported by appropriate backup or preservation arrangements.
Where available and formally implemented, SJNR may participate in recognized digital preservation services or institutional archiving programs.
Such services may include institutional repositories, trusted preservation networks, or preservation mechanisms compatible with the journal's publishing infrastructure.
The names of specific preservation services must be publicly stated only when participation or activation has been verified.
Persistent Identifiers and Metadata
Where assigned, Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) support persistent identification and discovery of published articles.
The journal should maintain accurate publication metadata, including:
-
Article titles and author information.
-
Institutional affiliations.
-
Publication dates.
-
Journal volume and issue information.
-
Abstracts and keywords.
-
Article identifiers and DOI records.
-
Copyright and license information.
-
Relevant correction or retraction relationships.
Metadata should be updated when necessary to reflect legitimate post-publication changes.
The journal should take reasonable steps to prevent misleading alterations of publication dates, article identities, or scholarly records.
Preservation of the Scholarly Record
SJNR recognizes that preservation concerns not only the availability of article files but also the reliability of their publication histories.
Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions should remain discoverable and appropriately connected to the affected articles.
Retracted articles should ordinarily remain identifiable as part of the scholarly record unless exceptional legal, privacy, or safety circumstances require restricted access or removal.
The journal should document substantive amendments and avoid the undocumented replacement of published scientific content.
Access Continuity and Technical Support
The editorial office and responsible technical personnel should coordinate appropriate measures to maintain the accessibility and reliability of the journal website.
These measures may include periodic monitoring, backup verification, software maintenance, access control, and recovery planning appropriate to the journal's resources and publishing infrastructure.
Technical access to the journal's system does not confer authority to alter scientific content or make editorial decisions without appropriate authorization.
Reader Assistance and Enquiries
Readers who experience difficulty accessing articles, downloading full-text files, locating publication records, or understanding applicable reuse permissions may contact the SJNR editorial office.
Questions concerning copyright, licensing, repository deposits, publication fees, digital preservation, and access to published material may also be submitted through the journal's official Contact Page.
