Generative AI Policy
Jurnal Laboratorium Khatulistiwa (JLK) acknowledges the increasing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in academic writing and scholarly publishing. To ensure transparency, accountability, and academic integrity, the journal implements the following policy effective 3 November 2025.
1. Guidelines for Authors
Disclosure Requirement
Authors are required to disclose any use of Generative AI tools in the preparation of their manuscript. This includes (but is not limited to) the use of AI for:
- Text generation or rewriting
- Data analysis or interpretation
- Figure or image generation
- Study design support
- Data collection assistance
All disclosures must be included in a section titled:
“AI Use Declaration”
Required Statement:
The authors used (name of AI tool/service) during the preparation of this manuscript for (specific purpose). The authors have carefully reviewed, edited, and verified the content and take full responsibility for the final version of the manuscript.
Exemptions
The use of GenAI tools solely for basic language improvement—such as grammar correction, spelling, punctuation, style refinement, or formatting—does not require disclosure.
Effective Implementation
The AI Use Declaration becomes mandatory for all manuscripts submitted for publication starting from Volume 8 Issue 1 (April 2026) and onward.
Author Responsibility
Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, validity, and integrity of their manuscript, including any parts developed or assisted by Generative AI tools. The journal reserves the right to evaluate AI usage on a case-by-case basis.
2. Guidelines for Reviewers
Reviewers are strictly prohibited from using Generative AI tools in any part of the peer-review process.
This includes:
- Uploading manuscripts into AI systems
- Using AI to generate review reports or comments
- Processing confidential manuscript content through AI tools
Reviewers are fully responsible for maintaining confidentiality and ensuring that all review reports are written independently without AI assistance.
3. Guidelines for Editors
Editors are not permitted to use Generative AI tools during editorial evaluation, decision-making, or communication processes.
Editors must not upload or process any manuscript materials—including text, figures, tables, or supplementary files—into AI-based systems.
All editorial decisions must be made independently to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and protection of author intellectual property.
